Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed as he uncovers a violent conspiracy while trying to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of a woman, Mae (REBECCA FERGUSON), whom he had fallen in love with but has a dark past.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/reminiscence01.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Reminiscence\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/reminiscence01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Quick Hit Review: <em>Reminiscence<\/em><\/strong> is a grounded sci-fi mystery thriller that had an interesting concept perhaps, some decent visual effects (albeit sometimes a bit video game-like for the cityscape) and committed performances from the core cast of Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson and Thandiwe Newton. However, the execution didn\u2019t quite worked for me and I never fully bought into the relationship between Jackman\u2019s Bannister and Ferguson\u2019s Mae. I will say I never was terribly bored and there are some interesting <em>moments<\/em> just as a whole never came together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The film was the feature writing and directing debut of Lisa Joy who previously (and guess currently) has worked on <em>Westworld<\/em> alongside her husband, Jonathan Nolan (who serves as an executive producer here). Unlike another director who made his debut under a Nolan, Wally Pfister, I\u2019d say Joy had a good enough eye and there were some okay action scenes and good visuals thanks to her cinematographer, Paul Cameron who worked on <em>Man on Fire<\/em>, <em>Collateral<\/em>, <em>Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides<\/em>and <em>21 Bridges<\/em> amongst others, in addition to <em>De Ja Vu<\/em> which <strong><em>Reminiscence<\/em><\/strong> did remind me of at times&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/reminiscence03.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Reminiscence\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/reminiscence03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the end, <strong><em>Reminiscence<\/em><\/strong> isn\u2019t a <em>bad<\/em> film, but lacked very much of an emotional gut-punch though I guess if you can really get into this, you might take something away, but for myself I was a bit disappointed given the cast.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 2\u00bd\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This release comes with a <strong>slip cover<\/strong> and inside is a redemption code for the <strong>Digital HD <\/strong>copy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>You\u2019re Going on a Journey (4:07)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Short featurette with some interviews by the cast including Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Fergsuson and Thandiwe Newton, plus writer\/director Lisa Joy, and some behind-the-scenes footage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>The Sunken Coast (7:05)<\/u><\/strong> shows the process of bringing the futuristic Miami which is partially underwater, to life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Crafting a Memory (8:24)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Featurette looks at putting memory to the film form.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><u>Reminiscence <\/u><\/em><\/strong><strong><u>Family Reunion (8:14)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 This is a featurette where members of <em>The Westworld<\/em> come together to work on the film. The 1080p high-definition transfer looks unsurprisingly good with sharp detail and well balanced colors, albeit leaning more towards some darker tones given the subject matter and gritty, water-logged future.
