After fighting in the Civil War, the Hammond brothers of Texas return to Austin and begin to drift apart. While Neal (ROCK HUDSON) commandeers the family ranch, courts local beauty Sally (JUDITH BRAUN) and becomes a marshal, Dan (ROBERT RYAN) turns to a life of crime and lusts after the wife (JULIA ADAMS) of a prominent magnate (RAYMOND BURR). Their lives converge when Neal must choose between Dan and a group of ranchers terrorized by his brother’s gang of cattle rustlers.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Horizons West<\/em><\/strong> comes to Blu-ray through Kino Lorber, presented in its original 1.37 full frame aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Since there\u2019s no mention of this being a new master, presumably KL received this from Universal where frankly not much remastering was necessary. Detail was sharp throughout and colors appear to be nicely well balanced. There might\u2019ve been a couple specs but otherwise this does seem to be a clean and the original film grain has been retained.<\/p>\n

The disc comes with a standard DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track which was more than adequate and slightly impressive, especially for a movie going on 60 years old. Dialogue comes across with great clarity and there is some good depth for the more action-oriented scenes. The lossless track is also clean, free of any apparent pops or hissing.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
