Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Always quick with a guip, Arthur J. Niles (BOB HOPE) is a noted author of books that offer worldly advice while documenting the lifestyles and love lives of various cultures. His newest study: Paradise Village, a rambling suburb in Southern California\u2019s San Fernando Valley. Meanwhile, Rosemary Howard (LANA TURNER) is a stylish unmarried femme who works in the tract\u2019s sales office.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>I\u2019m not terribly familiar with Bob Hope movies and Bachelor in Paradise<\/em><\/strong> is my first foray as a lead actor. While he\u2019s certainly fine the role and has some moments, I never quite bought him as bit of a tomcat character, though the film gives him those comedic hijinks to work off of (such as using too much detergent, flooding the home with suds). Opposite Hope is Lana Turner and similarly has some charming scenes and does have the screen presence in the female lead.<\/p>\n

But for all the decent charms, including the old fashion-ness, Bachelor in Paradise<\/em><\/strong> in the end isn\u2019t terribly memorable. As an interesting tid-bit, the film was directed by Jack Arnold whose career included a few horror staples like Creature from the Black Lagoon<\/em>, Revenge of the Creature<\/em> and Tarantula<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases Bachelor in Paradise<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray through the studio\u2019s Archive Collection. As I\u2019ve mentioned in numerous others from Warner, this one too looks amazing, detail is sharp and very nicely defined throughout and colors appear well balanced. There were no major instances of any film damage outside of maybe a spec or two, but nothing distracting.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The movie comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo track which I found to be quite nice, especially for a movie that is mostly dialogue with the remainder being made up for the 1960s-era score and cheesy main theme\/song.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Bachelor in Paradise<\/em><\/strong> is a fine, if not forgettable, 1961 romantic-comedy with many of the old fashioned plotlines and characters you\u2019d expect. Bob Hope was okay while Lana Turner had her moments. The Blu-ray released by the Warner Archive Collection offers up great video and audio transfers with features limited to just the theatrical trailer.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
