Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Although Larry Ballentine (ROBERT YOUNG) is married to the wealthy Greta (RITA JOHNSON), he still sees other women on the side. While he is involved with Verna Carlson (SUSAN HAYWARD), they commit embezzlement and run away together. However, a car accident occurs in which Verna is burned to death and thought to be Greta by police. When Larry goes to find Greta, he discovers that she has died in an equestrian accident and hides her body. Now Larry stands trial for murder.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: They Won\u2019t Believe Me<\/em><\/strong> is a well made, and well acted all around, film noir drama that works in spite of a lead character who is the definition of a cad, and jerk as well, and although the middle portion does lose some steam and tried my patience, I still found the finale to have some good suspense. The performances from the ladies, Susan Hayward, Rita Johnson and Jane Greer are all great, and each one has some nice chemistry opposite Robert Young so that aspect does help keeps the film afloat.<\/p>\n

As a side, this version is the uncut 95-minute length where previous DVD releases had the re-issued 80-minute cut. Haven\u2019t really found anything online what was cut or why but for any purists out there, this is the one for you.<\/p>\n

They Won\u2019t Believe Me<\/em><\/strong> debuts on Blu-ray presented in the film\u2019s original 1.37 aspect ratio and given a newly restored 1080p high-definition transfer. I don\u2019t think there is any better studio for releasing catalogue titles than the Warner Archive Collection, their transfers generally look stellar and this is no exception. Detail on this is incredibly sharp and very nicely defined with the original film grain and noise still retained. There were no apparent specs, scratches or signs of film damage thus this is a pristine picture, doubtful it has ever looked better.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The included DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track isn\u2019t perfect but still well above average, especially for a film going on 65 years old. Dialogue comes across with great clarity and the music\/score never tops out and the only downside, and it\u2019s ever so slight, is there is some minor hissing, but nothing that I found distracting.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

They Won\u2019t Believe Me<\/em><\/strong> is a well made and well acted film, with Robert Young playing a despicable yet still charming lead, noir drama with some darkly ironic humor thrown in for good measure. This Blu-ray release from the Warner Archive Collection does offer up excellent video and audio transfers and worth picking up even without having any bonus material.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
