While not a favorite of mine, preferring the previously mentioned movies, but still a very well made, and classic, Western nevertheless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The film, even though it\u2019s fairly lengthy clocking in at over 2.5 hours long, moves along at a brisk pace thanks in large part to three great performances from Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach, not to mention the beautiful landscapes shot by director Sergio Leone alongside his cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli (<em>Once Upon a Time in America<\/em>), photographing Spain and Italy taking place of the American frontier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/gbatu05.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/gbatu05.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even for those not entirely into westerns, <strong><em>The Good, the Bad and the Ugly<\/em><\/strong> would make for a good entry point in the genre, though you couldn\u2019t go wrong with the first two in \u201cThe Man With No Name\u201d trilogy.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 4\u00bd\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This release comes with a matted <strong>slip cover<\/strong> and an inner sleeve that is reversible showing the film\u2019s original poster artwork. This is pretty well packed with bonus features, including ports from the original DVD and Blu-rays releases best I could tell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Audio Commentary<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Film Historian Tim Lucas<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Leone\u2019s West: Making of Documentary (19:56)<\/u><\/strong> looks at the history behind Spaghetti Westerns and Sergio Leone\u2019s approach to filmmaking and entry into the American market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Il Maestro: Ennio Morricone and <em>The Good, the Bad and the Ugly<\/em> Parts 1 &amp; 2 (7:49\/12:28)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Featurette on the amazing composer and his iconic score for the film, some of which I still hear in commercials today. The second part is basically an audio essay on Morricone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>The Leone Style: On Sergio Leone (23:49)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Another close look at the filmmaker in this older featurette that includes interviews with Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and others who worked with or historians of Leone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>The Man Who Lost the Civil War (14:23)<\/u><\/strong> is about the true conflict that was featured in the film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Reconstruction of <em>The Good, the Bad and the Ugly <\/em>(11:10)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Extended cut of a featurette on how the film trimmed down from 178-minutes to 161 minutes for American audiences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Deleted Scenes (TRT 12:25)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 There are a few scenes here including two extended scenes and a reconstruction of another. There\u2019s no mention of exactly where this was taken from, but I assume it was directly provided by MGM rather than undergoing some new restoration. However, even so, the picture here looks absolutely fantastic, detail is very sharp and nicely defined with the original film grain and noise, which is prevalent given the stark environment, is still present even without the aid of a dynamic range. I didn\u2019t detect any major instances of artifacting, aliasing or bouts of dust marks, scratches or other damage to the film.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>AUDIO \u2013 4\u00bd\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The disc includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track as well as a 2.0 option, but the film starts with the former as the default. For the most part the lossless track sounds great, dialogue comes across with fine clarity and there is some moderate depth for the ambient noises, such as the surrounding elements of the western frontier.
