Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>After losing her husband during the Great Plague, Grace Haverstock (CHARLOTTE KIRK) is unjustly accused of being a witch and placed in the custody of England’s most ruthless witch hunter, Judge Moorcroft (SEAN PERTWEE). Forced to endure physical and emotional torture while steadfastly maintaining her innocence, Grace must face her own inner demons as the Devil himself starts to work his way into her mind.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: The Reckoning<\/em><\/strong> has an interesting enough premise and a subject I suppose you don\u2019t see very much, at least lately. However, never quite reaches its potential with some very standard direction, by no less than Neil Marshall who had a great start with Dog Soldiers<\/em> and The Descent<\/em> before having a gentle glide down with the likes of Doomsday<\/em> and the Hellboy<\/em> reboot. I will say at least Charlotte Kirk was a solid in the lead even when her character\u2019s hair and makeup look unusually exceptional in spite of the psychological and physical torture she endures over the course of four days.<\/p>\n

I can appreciate some of the craftsmanship of the sets and costumes though I think the script (by both Marshall and Kirk), and in-turn dialogue, could\u2019ve used some work but as it stands it\u2019s still probably worth a rental.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

RLJE Films releases The Reckoning<\/em> <\/strong>onto Blu-ray presented with a 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture looks fairly good for such a dark subject (and dark times) but still detail is well defined while colors are obviously pretty muted.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The disc includes a standard DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track really comes to life with the score by Christopher Drake (composer behind numerous of the DC Animated films), with a little over-the-top theme for Sean Pertwee\u2019s character. Meanwhile, dialogue comes across with fine clarity and there is some moderate depth for ambient noises.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, The Reckoning<\/em><\/strong> isn\u2019t at all a bad movie however it doesn\u2019t really standout very much outside of maybe Charlotte Kirk\u2019s performance where she does decent work, but not so sure it\u2019s enough to make this anything but a rental.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
