Season Synopsis: <\/strong>High school sophomore Courtney Whitmore\u2019s (BREC BASSINGER) seemingly perfect life in Los Angeles is upended by a move to Blue Valley, Nebraska, with her mother, Barbara (AMY SMART); stepfather, Pat Dugan (LUKE WILSON); and stepbrother, Mike (TRAE ROMANO). While struggling to adopt to her new family, town and school, Courtney discovers that Pat is harboring a major secret: He was the sidekick to the Justice Society of America\u2019s Starman (JOEL MCHALE). When Courtney accidentally discovers the Cosmic Staff, she uses its power to reignite the legacy of the long-lost Super Hero team and inspire a new generation of crime-fighters including: Yolanda Montez\/Wildcat II (YVETTE MONREAL), Beth Chapel\/Doctor Mid-Nite II (ANJELIKA WASHINGTON) and Rick Tyler\/Hourman II (CAMERON GELLMAN).<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>Although I\u2019m not really familiar with the JSA (Justice Society of America) or its core members outside of Hawkman and Doctor Fate (only because of their appearances on DC\u2019s Legends of Tomorrow<\/em> and Smallville<\/em>), I found this newest DC series Stargirl<\/em><\/strong> to be really fun and entertaining. Nothing terribly new in terms of its storytelling but still features some engaging characters led way by Brec Bassinger and features Luke Wilson in the reluctant mentor role. The choice of Bassinger as the titular Stargirl brings innocence, reminiscent in some regard to Grant Gustin\u2019s Flash or even, blasphemes as it may be, Christopher Reeve\u2019s Superman.<\/p>\n

The remainder of the ensemble, outside of Amy Smar,t playing the mother of a teenager makes me feel really<\/em> old, are filled with mainly unknowns both in terms of actors by their respective characters. However, they each work well off of one another, facing off against what seem to be C or D-level supervillains, the type perfectly suitable for a television series.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Warner Bros. releases Stargirl: The Complete First Season<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray where it was presented with a 2.00 widescreen which I believe how it was aired or streamed and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture here looks great, detail is reasonably sharp especially on the close-up shots before losing some perspective for the more distant ones. However, colors are bright in keeping with some of the more comedic element, though black levels are similarly impressive.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Each episode comes with a strong DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track offering up crisp and clear dialogue coming from the center channel and the action-centric scenes coming through quite nicely from the front speakers and some ambient noises for the rears. Most impressive was the LFE channel clicking on to add an extra measure of depth during the fight scenes on display right out of the gate of the pilot episode.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, Stargirl<\/em><\/strong> is a fun superhero fantasy-adventure featuring some unique characters that haven\u2019t been seen before, most I\u2019ve never heard of, though my expertise of DC doesn\u2019t go much beyond Batman and Superman. In any case, as much as I have criticized some other DC shows, this one is probably my favorite and I hope to see more in the future. On the downside, the Blu-ray has no bonus material.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
