Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>A chorus of film critics and fervent devotees explore the complicated afterlife of 1995\u2019s biggest film flop, Paul Verhoeven\u2019s salacious Showgirls<\/em>, from disastrous release to cult adoration and extraordinary redemption. The film features Adam Nayman (Vice Guide to Film<\/em>), April Kidwell (I, Nomi<\/em>) and Peaches Christ (Milk<\/em>) along with archive interview footage with the cast and crew of Showgirls<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>Kind of amusing, and maybe perplexing, that there is a documentary about the movie Showgirls<\/em> but here we are with You Don\u2019t Nomi<\/em><\/strong>, which is a film that has commentators talking over footage from the movie or archival behind-the-scenes photos, so without any actual interview footage, save for archive promotional material from Paul Verhoeven and Elizabeth Berkley, doesn\u2019t make for a very engaging viewing experience. That said, it is interesting to hear from both sides ones who believe Showgirls<\/em><\/strong> to be genius filmmaking and others complete and utter garbage.<\/p>\n

Personally speaking, I really never give Showgirls<\/em> much a second thought, let alone much desire to revisit having seen it once way back when the Blu-ray was released. It\u2019s certainly an interesting drama for sure and a spotty performance from Berkley, but otherwise it has your clich\u00e9d rise to fame storyline with the starlet, previously doey-eyed and inexperienced, going to the top.<\/p>\n

I suppose if you\u2019re fascinated with the movie, You Don\u2019t Nomi<\/em><\/strong> might hit the right spot, giving perspective on all sides so there is something there for everybody, just a shame it wasn\u2019t a bit more comprehensive, featuring new interviews with the cast and crew or even the commentators having their interviews on video.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The movie is shown with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Given that the bulk of this is archive footage, you\u2019re not going to get anything overly brilliant, though presumably the movie footage was taken from the Blu-ray HD source. In any case, nothing amazing here but serviceable.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Speaking of serviceable, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is perfectly fine, dialogue from the interviews comes across with nice clarity and everything else, such as audio from the movie, is also centrally located with minimal use of the front and rear channels outside maybe the music or score.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, You Don\u2019t Nomi<\/em><\/strong> proves there\u2019s a documentary on about just about any subject, and this one on Showgirls<\/em> which has received a cult following over the years and apparently growing debate on its qualities so to speak. This one didn\u2019t really change my mind, it\u2019s a bad film but far (FAR) from the worst and at least has some camp going for it.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
