Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Bon voyage! Georgia Garrett’s (DORIS DAY) singing career may not be going anywhere, but she is. She’s on a cruise, sailing under the name Mrs. Elvira Kent while the real Elvira (JANIS PAIGE) secretly stays home to spy on her presumably philandering hubby (DON DE FORE). Meanwhile, the husband hires a spy (JACK CARSON) to snoop on his supposedly voyaging wife.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: Romance on the High Seas<\/em><\/strong> is a charmingly funny, if not obviously old-fashioned, romantic comedy with a plot that nowadays would\u2019ve come out of some 1990s sitcom with mistaken identities and contrivances. However, I did really like this cast, especially Doris Day in her feature film debut showing some chemistry with Jack Carson. I had plenty of fun, and laughs, with this breezy rom-com from 1948 that presumably today\u2019s audiences might find outdated.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Romance on the High Seas<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray through the Warner Archive Collection and includes a new 1080p high-definition transfer taken from a 4K scan of the original nitrate Technicolor negatives. Bar none, this looks fantastic, detail is sharp throughout and from beginning to end, colors are brilliant and vibrant, highly doubtful this film ever looked better. The video was also clean, no apparent or obvious signs of wear and tear like scratches or dust marks.<\/p>\n

The disc includes a standard DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track. While dialogue does come through quite nicely, the musical numbers are where this lossless track really comes to life. Despite this being centrally located, there is some nice depth during the music sequences, bolstering through with clarity, free of any pops, hisses or other aural ailments.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
