That is, if they don’t kill each other first. In Season One, Legionnaires Bouncing Boy (MICHAEL CORNACCHIA), Brainiac 5 (ADAM WYLIE), Saturn Girl (KARI WAHLGREN) and Lightning Lad (ANDY MILDER) travel back in time to convince an awkward teen named Clark Kent (YURI LOWNTHAL) to join their Legion of Super Heroes and battle their archemeses, the Fatal Five. The insecure teen is, in turn, inspired by his new friends and, with their help, begins his journey to become the galaxy’s greatest hero. Catching up two years later, Season Two presents Superman and the Legion with an even greater challenge: Kell-El, the Superman of the 41st century.

Quick Hit Review: Prior to receiving this release, I actually never heard of Legion of Super Heroes other than maybe mentions about the comic book series, but nothing on this animated show which only lasted two seasons and aired on Kids’ WB (on the CW), and apparently became Superman-centric as a promotion for Superman Returns which came out in 2006. The show, due to Kids’ WB folding into something called “4Kids” never got a renewel.

As for the show itself, kind of goofy at times, especially the first season before going darker in season two, but a bit of fun humor for both young and old, fans and non-fans. Not entirely sure I loved the animation itself, a bit weird however the stories were pretty entertaining and I did enjoy these colorful characters rarely seen outside the comics, a nice change-up. Course, hard to measure up to the various other animated series (Batman, Superman, Justice League), but still a nice addition to the other outstanding shows from DC animation.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

The three-disc set is housed in a standard Blu-ray case.
