Series Synopsis: 30 Rock<\/em><\/strong> centers on young Liz Lemon (TINA FEY), currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York. Complications follow when the network’s new president, Jack \u00a0orders Liz to hire mentally unstable movie star Tracy Jordan to join the cast, throwing neurotic leading lady (and Liz’s best friend) Jenna Maroney into a tizzy. Liz tries to juggle all the egos around her while trying to chase her own dream.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: 30 Rock<\/em><\/strong> wasn\u2019t a series that I ever watched, not a single second. There\u2019s no reason in particular, just didn\u2019t watch many shows live or via DVR outside of the occasional Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins<\/em> and Ghost Hunters<\/em> (judge me all you want). In any case, this was my first time watching and I can see how it received the hype and awards over the course of its seven seasons. It might not be to the level of a Seinfeld<\/em> but pretty darn close, and Tina Fey proves to easily be the funniest person working today (and that Mean Girls<\/em> was not some fluke).<\/p>\n

Beyond Fey, this is fantastic ensemble cast. Alec Baldwin may be a jerk and grade A a-hole, but he\u2019s pitch-perfect as network exec Jack Donahghy, a character who has a similar personality, though far more likeable and Tracy Morgan is a lot of fun playing an uber-crazy superstar. Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer both are wonderful in more supporting roles, the latter especially stands out as a loveable goof.<\/p>\n

Looking it over, 30 Rock<\/em><\/strong> received a ton of award nominations and wins between the Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes, most notable Fey and Baldwin who certainly are the two consistent standouts over the course of the seven seasons (nominated for all in the Outstanding Comedy Series, winning three). And based on what I watched in this short time, well deserving in all respects.<\/p>\n

Not entirely sure 30 Rock<\/em><\/strong> is the best comedy series I\u2019ve seen as I would rank Seinfeld<\/em> and Frasier<\/em> ahead, as this does make for a fun, light-hearted viewing, perfect for these times we\u2019re living in, the ability to dive into any random episode.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Mill Creek Entertainment releases 30 Rock<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray for the first time where it\u2019s presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio as originally aired on NBC, and a nice looking 1080p high-definition transfer. I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality here; detail is nicely sharp and well defined while colors, in keeping with the light-hearted content, are vibrant and bright.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Each episode is equipped with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, perfectly serviceable for a comedy series which is generally dialogue driven, so the bulk of the audio does come through the center channel. There\u2019s not a ton of usage of the front and back speakers outside of the score and minor ambient noises in multiple character scenes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
