At the center of it all is Harlan\u2019s personal nurse, Marta (ANA DE ARMAS). Now, Blanc must sift through a web of lies and red herrings to uncover the truth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout03.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Knives Out\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Review: <\/strong>Rian Johnson, to say the least, has become a divisive name for some following the release of his <em>Star Wars: The Last Jedi<\/em> and even though I too wasn\u2019t very impressed, surprisingly mostly by the writing more than anything, I did love his feature debut, <em>Brick<\/em>, a modern film-noir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Johnson has dipped back into what I think is his wheelhouse, this time an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, <strong><em>Knives Out<\/em><\/strong>. Although there is a mid-point where some political discussion felt a tad forced, Johnson\u2019s script in combination with some nice direction, which includes alternate POVs depending on who\u2019s talking, made for a finely crafted film that does keep one guessing until the very end.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout06.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Knives Out\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout06.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The performances from this ensemble are all well done, though Daniel Craig easily stands out as Blanc, a mix of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, with an accent that is a bit off, though still kind of works for the character, and Craig proves once more he is a talent, shame he seems to have contempt for playing James Bond\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In any case, Ana de Armas turns in yet another nice performance, solidifying herself as perhaps a star of the future, such as they are nowadays while you have some veterans like Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette and Michael Shannon all doing well for themselves, and that\u2019s not to mention fun seeing Don Johnson in a major role, gets a bit lost with the rest but still shows he has some great charisma even when playing a smarmy character.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout09.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Knives Out\" src=\"https:\/\/d.img.vision\/moviemansguide\/knivesout09.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Knives Out<\/em><\/strong> isn\u2019t entirely innovative taking the Agatha Christie murder-mystery blueprint and putting a fun little twist to it, but it shows once again, since <em>Brick<\/em> anyway, that Rian Johnson is a talented filmmaker, just in my eyes perhaps wasn\u2019t the right fit for a <em>Star Wars<\/em> movie, at least unchecked.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 5.0\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This release does come with a matted <strong>slip cover<\/strong>, inside contains the redemption code for the <strong>Digital HD<\/strong> copy. Comes with an optional commentary with Johnson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Making a Murder (1:57:07)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 8-Part making-of featurette covering the inspirations, casting, costumes, production design, cinematography, editing and music &amp; sound. Both of these do look rather fantastic, detail particularly on the 4K is sharp with the natural film noise giving it that theatrical look.
