Featurette looks back on adapting the novel and its themes to the casting and, of course, the score. A little disappointing some of the cast, like Ethan Hawke couldn\u2019t be wrangled to provide some sound bites.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>A Fresh Snow (10:12)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 Pretty fascinating featurette, another new to this release, with Robert Richardson as he guides viewers through the process of restoring the film as the previous transfer on DVD was at the very least, inadequate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Spotlight on Location (21:43)<\/u><\/strong> \u2014 This is more or less a promotional featurette from circa 1999 with interviews by members of the cast and crew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Deleted Scenes (21:59)<\/u><\/strong> are a collection of nine scenes either alternate cuts or deleted completely that are in rough form but interesting to check out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u>Theatrical Trailer (2:29)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>VIDEO \u2013 4.5\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shout Factory releases <strong><em>Snow Falling on Cedars<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray which has been given a 1080p high-definition transfer taken from a new 4K transfer which was supervised by director of photography, and Academy Award nominee Robert Richardson. On the surface, this doesn\u2019t appear to be a fantastic picture, but that\u2019s probably because this is a darkly lit film and very much muted colors even during some of the daylight scenes, in keeping with the more somber tone. With that, I did feel detail was pretty good and there didn\u2019t appear to be any obvious signs of artifacting, aliasing or apparent film damage.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The movie comes with a satisfactory DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 which does output good dialogue which this film is mostly comprised, though there is some okay depth thanks to James Newton Howard\u2019s haunting score (which I personally have on my old iPod).
