Season Synopsis: <\/strong>Supergirl (MELISSA BENOIST) faces a bigger threat than ever before: a wave of anti-alien sentiment spreading across National City that\u2019s formented by Agent Liberty (SAM WITER). As Kara Danvers mentors a new investigative reporter, Nia Nal (NICOLE MAINES), at CatCo Worldwide Media and tries to use the power of the press to shine a light on the issues threatening to tear the city apart, Supergirl takes to the skies to battle the many villains rising up in this era of divisiveness. How does Supergirl battle a movement when she, an alien herself, represents what people fear most? But it\u2019s the malevolent Lex Luthor (JON CRYER) and his nefarious plans for evil dominion that present the Girl of Steel with her greatest challenge\u2026and a shocking new ally.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: Supergirl<\/em><\/strong> is at this time perhaps one of the strong shows amongst the DC television series though as I kind of like escapist entertainment, the show has gotten a little heavy-handed, even preachy, in the past couple of seasons. Activist messages are fine, just look at the not so subtly of the X-Men<\/em> movie franchise, but I would hope a show like this would have better writers to manage it, rather than hit you over the head. In any case, I still did enjoy this fourth season and the introduction of Lex Luthor portrayed by Jon Cryer, who has his own history with Superman playing Luthor\u2019s nephew in the god-awful Superman IV: The Quest for Peace<\/em> (interestingly, that is the title for the season finale).<\/p>\n

Once again, Melissa Benoist does a wonderful job personifying the goodness and eagerness of Supergirl, much in the same (somewhat) caliber as Christopher Reeve even (blasphemous to certain people, I know) and as a side, do like the changes to the costume, though does show some of the cheaper elements (like the fabric folding up) of a TV series as compared to feature film. I even kind of liked Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor (shame it was so short-live) and Katie McGrath is still quite good as Lena Luthor and her development into Supergirl\u2019s ultimate arch-nemesis.<\/p>\n

The fourth season of Supergirl<\/em><\/strong> flies onto Blu-ray presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio as it originally aired on TV and has been given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors on this series, even when the story can be dark in tone, are bright and detail is relatively sharp throughout the season while black levels were decently stark.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
