Season Synopsis: <\/strong>Season Five finds Barry Allen (GRANT GUSTIN) and his new wife, Iris West (CANDICE PATTON), finally settling into married life when they\u2019re visited by Nora West-Allen (JESSICA PARKER KENNEDY), their speedster daughter from the future. Nora\u2019s arrival brings to light the legacy every member of \u201cTeam Flash\u201d will leave years from now, causing many to question who they are today. And while Nora idolizes Barry, she holds a mysterious grudge against Iris. As \u201cTeam Flash\u201d adjusts to the next generation of speedster, they discover Nora\u2019s presence has triggered the arrival of the most ruthless, vicious and relentless villain they have ever faced: Cicada (CHRIS KLEIN).<\/p>\n

Review: The Flash<\/em><\/strong> is probably now my favorite series of the DC television shows still currently on the air. Perhaps its faint praise given Legends of Tomorrow<\/em> has faltered some (and if I\u2019m honest, never had the strongest acting or writing) and I\u2019ve grown really tired of Arrow<\/em>, mainly because the focal points have generally been the \u201cTeam Arrow\u201d side characters, and Supergirl<\/em> has gotten on the annoying side, although I do still like Melissa Benoist in the lead.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, The Flash<\/em><\/strong> has gone in that direction, though Barry is still the central character at least and it is nice seeing Barry and Iris\u2019 new marriage. It also helps that I do enjoy time travel and alternate universes, so this series usually hits the right spot and the mystery behind the appearance of Nora West-Allen, portrayed cheerfully by Jessica Parker Kennedy, was a good hook and the always tremendous and thespian Chris Klein playing the villain was actually pretty good casting. Not terribly intimidating but a good inclusion especially since The Flash doesn\u2019t exactly have the richest of a rogues gallery.<\/p>\n

Another highlight, as it usually is with these DC shows, is the crossover episodes, this time \u201cElseworlds\u201d which is incredible fun, most notably Stephen Amell\u2019s Arrow getting Barry\u2019s powers and vice versa. The crossover event also sees the introduction of Ruby Rose as Batwoman, which I particularly liked, mostly because I am a fan of Rose. Another fun episode sees two outlandish characters in Gorilla Grodd and King Shark; sure the effects aren\u2019t amazing, but\u00a0 good enough for the kind of budget available.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Best of DC TV\u2019s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2018 (1:00:59)<\/u><\/strong> is an expansive look at the SDCC panel for DC and includes stage interviews with the cast for the various television series.<\/p>\n

Inside the Crossover: Elseworlds (45:01)<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Executive producers of Arrow<\/em>, Batwoman<\/em>, The Flash<\/em> and Supergirl<\/em> gather for a discussion, and some of DC\u2019s greatest minds explore the Elseworlds genre.<\/p>\n

Villains: Modes of Persuasion (36:05)<\/u><\/strong> is an exploration of the needs, wants and desires that fuel the nefarious deeds perpetrated by DC villains.<\/p>\n

Warner releases The Flash<\/em><\/strong>: Season Five onto Blu-ray presented in its originally televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture for the most part does look good where detail is sharp and well defined and more impressive, colors are bright and vibrant while black levels are decently stark.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track isn\u2019t anything amazing but effective with good dialogue levels throughout and offers some nice depth especially on display during the numerous action sequences where even the LFE channel kicks in to add an extra boost which isn\u2019t always the case with TV seasons on Blu-ray.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, The Flash: The Complete Fifth Season<\/em><\/strong> was highly entertaining even though I\u2019m not the biggest fan of these \u201cTeam\u201d aspects which hurt Arrow<\/em>, but here, the family dynamic with Barry\/Iris\/Nora injected some great emotion and the villains were well done, including the return of Gorilla Grodd and King Shark. This Blu-ray release offers up good video\/audio transfers and a fine selection of bonus features.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
