Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>In this documentary, astronauts from the Kennedy Space Center complete intensive training, say goodbye to their loved ones, launch and meet cosmonauts from the Baikonur Cosmodrome 220 miles above the Earth, where they work to complete the International Space Station, a permanent laboratory designed\u00a0to study the long-term effects of human exposure to zero gravity. The team struggles with procedures as dangerous as they are delicate, all while orbiting Earth at a speed of 17,000 miles per hour.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>The Space Station<\/em><\/strong> documentary is similar to A Beautiful Planet<\/em>, are pretty to look at for sure, but you\u2019re really only getting precursory information on the subject, in this case the ISS. I didn\u2019t really learn anything new but that\u2019s not to say it isn\u2019t mesmerizing to look at, even when Tom Cruise\u2019s narration was actually a bit distracting. Also not helping is that the IMAX scale doesn\u2019t always translate to the smaller screen not to mention, no 3D which apparently was a big bonus for those who say it on an IMAX screen for a far more immersive experience.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Mill Creek Entertainment distributes Space Station<\/em><\/strong> onto 4K Ultra HD presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and a 2160p high-definition transfer. The picture does at times look breathtaking, mainly the shots of the ISS set against the Earth and inside, does give a glimpse of the confinement and environment the astronauts have to work in. Detail is sharp and nicely defined throughout. Not the best looking 4K but still striking.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The included DTS:X at times feels underwhelming… until a few scenes when the rockets are ignited and shuttles launch into space, these really bring the audio to life shaking the entire room thanks to the LFE kicking in and every channel gets lit. Shame it only comprises maybe three minutes but it is the closest probably to what the audience experienced in the IMAX Theater.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, Space Station<\/em><\/strong> is a fascinating and up-close look at the ISS and although it\u2019s not terribly in-depth and likely was an amazing experience seeing it in an IMAX theater and in 3D, this is still worth checking out. This 4K UHD release from Mill Creek offers up excellent video and audio transfers along with some decent bonus material.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
