PLOT SYNOPSIS

In 1900 in the Bowery, former prize fighter “Slag” McGurk (WALLACE BEERY) grows disenchanted when his prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Johnny Burden (Cameron Mitchell), leaves boxing to join the Salvation Army. Slag inadvertently becomes involved with lost young orphan Nipper (DEAN STOCKWELL), who’s searching for his wealthy uncle. Greedily hoping for a reward, Slag helps Nipper, but when Johnny threatens to have the boy taken away, Slag agrees to give up his rowdy ways and join the Salvation Army to retain Nipper.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Warner Brothers Home Entertainment releases the movie through their MOD program, presented with a 1.37 full frame aspect ratio which actually doesn\u2019t look half bad. There are some minor scratches and specs that do consistently crop up and it is on the softer side, but otherwise this black and white picture is decent enough. Similarly the Dolby Digital Mono track outputs fine dialogue levels with some minor pops and hissing here and there.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This Warner Archive release offers respectable video and audio transfers but as always, the features are basically non-existent.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
