Old-school magic meets the modern world when young Alex (LOUIS ASHBOURNE SERKIS) stumbles upon the mythical sword Excalibur. Origins of a King (11:48)<\/u><\/strong> is a behind-the-scenes featurette on the origins of the story from writer-director Joe Cornish and includes interviews with the filmmakers and cast.<\/p>\n

Young Knights (12:07)<\/u><\/strong> looks at the young cast that comprises the legendary knights of the roundtable.<\/p>\n

Knight School (10:03)<\/u><\/strong> shows the training for these young actors in preparation for the action scenes.<\/p>\n

The Two Merlins (11:48)<\/u><\/strong> looks at the actors who played the young (Angus Imrie) and old version (Patrick Stewart) of the Merlin character.<\/p>\n

Meet Morgana (12:02)<\/u><\/strong> is a profile on the film\u2019s main villain played by Rebecca Ferguson.<\/p>\n

Movie Magic (13:33)<\/u><\/strong> looks at the beautiful filming locations.<\/p>\n

Hair, Makeup & Costume Tests (2:58)<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Just some test footage with the kids just having some fun.<\/p>\n

The Kid Who Would Be King<\/em><\/strong> takes the throne on Blu-ray presented in the film\u2019s original 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and has been given a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture quality is on par with most new releases with sharp detail throughout and a good array of colors blended with some of the darker elements. There were no obvious instances of artifacting, aliasing or other flaws so it is a clean looking transfer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Fox still only provides a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track while its UHD counterpart is Dolby Atmos, but even so this is an impressive sounding track. Dialogue comes through with great clarity and when the action picks up, every speaker is used to the fullest potential. Nothing I\u2019d call reference quality, but still imposing enough.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, The Kid Who Would Be King<\/em><\/strong> is a decent enough, family-oriented fantasy film that takes the old tales bringing it to a newer generation. That said, a lot of the humor didn\u2019t quite work, perhaps because of my age and this is geared more toward a young audience. The Blu-ray release offers up great video\/audio transfers and a good selection of bonus features.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
