After finding themselves stranded on a remote island, a group of young friends discover that the only structure is an old hotel which seems inexplicably stuck in 1959 and, stranger still, has up Christmas and New Year\u2019s decorations despite it being the middle of summer. As the youngsters take shelter for the evening, increasingly weird events begin to occur, as each of the hotel\u2019s unexpected guests meets a gruesome fate\u2026<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Although my review copy did not come with one, this release does come with a limited edition slip cover. The interior artwork is also reversible. The Vinegar Syndrome releases normally are pretty well packed, but this only comes with an Audio Commentary<\/u><\/strong> with Director Norman J. Warren.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Blood New Year<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray through Vinegar Syndrome where it\u2019s shown in its original 1.85 widescreen presentation and given a new 1080p high-definition transfer taken from a newly scanned and restored scan of the 35mm archival elements and scanned in 2K resolution. While the film does still show some dust marks and specs, it does look really good, especially for an independent film from over 30 years ago. Detail is just okay while colors at least appear natural looking. However, on the downside, the majority of the film is filled with a liquid-like staining on the transfer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The disc comes with an adequate DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. There was some noticeable hissing though never felt was terribly distracting. Dialogue did come through with decent clarity and there was some modest depth with the background or off-screen noises.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, Bloody New Year<\/em><\/strong> is your typical 1980 indie slasher\/horror with some gory fun moments amongst the so-so performances; this probably would make for a fun viewing especially around New Years. The Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome is especially light on the features while the video\/audio transfers were respectable enough.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
