THE MOVIE \u2014 1.5\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Joe (NICOLAS CAGE) is a struggling truck driver haunted by the memory of his deceased wife and daughter. Joe\u2019s life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Julie (FRANKA POTENTE), a woman with mysterious spiritual powers, whose daughter, Billie (PENELOPE MITCHELL), lies in a coma. Julie enlists Joe\u2019s help to stop Billie from crossing over to the spirit world, but when Billie awakes, her body is possessed, by the vengeful spirit of Joe\u2019s dead wife.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>I\u2019ve seen the devolution of Nicolas Cage over the years but at least some of his bad movies resulted in some outlandish, over-the-top performances… not sure I can say we got that in his latest direct-to-video\/vod outing. Early on Cage just delivers a lazy, poor performance though by the finale, he does get a bit bizarre but not nearly enough to make this fantasy-thriller a worthwhile venture. Franka Potente though never really rose to stardom following her standout performance in The Bourne Identity<\/em> (and in fairness, perhaps didn\u2019t pursue a more Hollywood career) and here, considering the script, did her best. Equally the young Penelope Mitchell isn\u2019t terrible either, hopefully gets better work in the future.<\/p>\n

This is the sophomoric writing and directorial for Maria Pulera, following 2016\u2019s much maligned crime-thriller Falsely Accused<\/em>, and perhaps on the surface there was an interesting idea, but it was badly executed and the script itself probably needed an extra pass, and with a more respected actor in the lead (sorry Nic Cage), this might\u2019ve made for an interesting, and f\u2019d up version of Ghost<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Lionsgate releases Between Worlds<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray presented with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition. The picture quality isn\u2019t anything incredible, but on par with what you would expect from a DTV film. Colors aren\u2019t terribly vibrant, not surprising considering the darker tone while detail was relatively sharp. There were some minor instances of banding in one scene but otherwise this was a fine looking transfer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
