Season Synopsis: <\/strong>MacGyver (RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON) is a top agent for the Phoenix Foundation, a progressive agency devoted to righting the wrongs of the world. Even more progressive is the genius MacGyver, who never carries a gun and always thwarts the enemy with vast scientific knowledge – sometimes with little more than a paper clip and the duct tape in his pocket.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: MacGyver<\/em><\/strong> was never a series I really watched growing up, I was more into either Magnum P.I.<\/em> or The Wonder Years<\/em> with some syndication runs of Batman<\/em> for cheesy measure. Now watching it today for the first time, it is an incredibly fun if not also quant series by today\u2019s standards, with simplistic one-off plots, kind of like others of the era like The A-Team<\/em> or Knight Rider<\/em>, episodes which usually revolved around extraordinary gifted people coming into help everyday people get out of a jam and onto the next. No real season-long storyline, the perfect kind of shows to jump in and out of. MacGyver<\/em><\/strong> fir that bill perfectly.<\/p>\n

The first season of MacGyver<\/em><\/strong> is by no means perfect. The dialogue is on the stilted side and the episodes is on the predictable side as well, but Richard Dean Anderson\u2019s charms really help to carry even the below average episodes especially as his character gets out of dicey situations with everyday objects, with whatever is lying around. Who the hell knows whether it\u2019s scientifically sound, though Mythbusters<\/em> did test a few with, as I recall, mixed results.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

MacGyver<\/em><\/strong> is presented in its originally televised full frame 1.33 aspect ratio; colors are pretty impressively bright throughout with only some minor defects that I noticed here and there, perhaps an issue with the source material. Other than that, the 1080p transfer is well defined with nice sharpness from episode to episode.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Each episode comes with a basic but effective enough Dolby Digital Mono track which sounds fine with good dialogue levels though being a singular track, not much depth and there was some minor, though not distracting, hisses in some spots due to some of the on-location filming.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This Blu-ray release offers a respectable video transfer, decent audio but no bonus material.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
