Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Eight college friends head to a “Haunted Rental” in a remote town for Halloween weekend. There, they play the game rumored to have caused the deaths of seven teenagers decades earlier, Truth or Dare<\/em>. And what starts out as vodka-induced fun, quickly turns serious when the dares become sickeningly dangerous and the truths threaten to tear the group apart. When players attempt to refuse the increasingly challenging tasks, they’re met with deadly consequences, quickly discovering: you must do the dare, or the dare does you.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>This is the second Truth or Dare<\/em><\/strong> movie I\u2019ve seen this year following the Blumhouse version a couple months back but unbeknownst to me, this one actually aired on SyFy last year. Now, maybe it\u2019s because I\u2019m grading on a curve since the Blumhouse one was god-awful and downright stupid and while this one is certainly dumb at times, they did at least go for it all in terms of the kills and at the very least, this ensemble of characters weren\u2019t nearly as annoying\/obnoxious and even were somewhat likeable, albeit they are thinly written.<\/p>\n

The film was directed by Nick Simon from a script by Thommy Hutson and Ethan Lawrence, the former having a hand in a couple of wonderful documentaries, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy<\/em> and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th<\/em>. Truth or Dare<\/em><\/strong> is by no means a great movie or even good one, but I\u2019d be lying if I didn\u2019t say there was some of the \u201cdares\u201d that did make me squirm, something I could not say about the other film…<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Truth or Dare<\/em><\/strong> is shown with a 16×9 enhanced 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and doesn\u2019t look half bad for a made-for-TV movie and standard definition. The Dolby Digital 5.1 nicely expounds the various blood-curdling screams and still output some fine ambient noises.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, Truth or Dare<\/em><\/strong> is a really ridiculous game to make into a horror movie to begin with, but having it done twice, the theatrically released Blumhouse version coming out some months after this one, is so dumb. That being said, and perhaps I\u2019m grading on a curve comparing it to the other movie, I found this one passably entertaining if only for some of the squirm-worthy kills.
