The world is a confusing place for Wendy (DAKOTA FANNING), a fiercely independent and brilliant young woman with autism. Wendy longs to leave her group home and return to life with her sister\u2019s family and new baby. She is sure that in order to reunite with her family all she needs to do is convince them of her newfound competence and abilities. As a lover of all things Star Trek<\/em>, Wendy writes in her free time; so when she hears about a Star Trek<\/em> screenplay competition, she seizes the opportunity to submit her 500 page script and prove her worth. The only problem: if she doesn\u2019t hand it in person she will miss the deadline. Wendy sneaks out of her group home and travels the hundreds of miles outside her protected boundaries and refuses to let anything stop her from achieving her goals.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Magnolia Home Entertainment releases Please Stand By<\/em><\/strong> presented with a good looking and sharp 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors are generally bright and skin tones have a natural appearance to them.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is pretty basic but serviceable given a good portion of the movie is mostly dialogue with some ambient noises especially when Wendy hits the road where we hear the low hum of a bus or the sounds of the city once arriving in Hollywood. Nothing spectacular but certainly good enough.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, Please Stand By<\/em><\/strong> is a heart-warming and important movie that, from my reading anyway, realistically presents a person with autism rather realistically and respectfully, and Dakota Fanning\u2019s performance was tremendous. The Blu-ray release offers up good video and audio transfers while the features were limited.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
