/>

Jerry Lewis is perhaps one of the best comedians and at the very least, though he was never a personal favorite of mine. He was probably best known to the mainstream for either his charity telethons or the original The Nutty Professor (included here) but his career spanned some seven decades. Collected here are 10 films from 1953 through 1965, presumably part of Paramount’s catalog.

Here are the movies included:

The Stooge (1953) – Egotistical vaudevillian Bill Miller basks in the limelight with his successful musical-comedy act, but his success is due to his unheralded sidekick.

The Delicate Delinquent (1957)

The Bellboy (1960) – A mute bellboy (LEWIS) working at the luxurious Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach constantly causes problems with his clumsy mistakes.

Cinderfella (1960) – Cinderfella’s (LEWIS) fairy godfather (ED WYNN) helps him escape from his wicked stepmother (JUDITH ANDERSON) and stepbrothers.

The Errand Boy (1961)

The Ladies Man (1961) – Upon losing his lover, Herbert (LEWIS) gives up women for good and seeks a fresh start by taking a maintenance position at what appears to be an ordinary Los Angeles boarding house. To Herbert’s surprise, however, the building caters specifically to single women. He immediately resolves to quit, but landlady Miss Wellenmellon (HELEN TRAUBEL) and sweet tenant Fay (PAT STANLEY) talk him into keeping the job. In no time at all, Herbert is mired in one comic disaster after another.

The Nutty Professor (1963) – Julius Kelp (LEWIS) is a college professor with a problem. Clumsy, awkward, inarticulate and unattractive, Julius is a hopeless case when it comes to women — but he’s desperate to impress beautiful student Stella (STELLA STEVENS). Fortunately, he does know something about chemistry and decides to concoct a potion that will turn him into a whole new man. In this classic comedy, Julius’ suave alter ego, Buddy Love, must win Stella’s affections before his short-lived potion runs out.

The Disorderly Orderly (1964) – A hospital orderly creates havoc by igniting a patient’s beard and stealing an ambulance to pursue his girlfriend.

The Patsy (1964) – Eccentric bellhop Stanley Belt (LEWIS) is recruited unexpectedly by the comedy team of a recently deceased entertainer. Stanley struggles to become a song-and-dance man as the team — including producer Caryl (EVERETT SLOAN), writer Chic (PHIL HARRIS) and assistant Ellen (INA BALIN) — groomshim to become a star. But as the date of a high-stakes appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show grows near, they begin to fear that the only astonishing thing about Stanley is his utter lack of talent.

The Family Jewels (1965) – An orphan heiress (Donna Butterworth) goes with her chauffeur (Jerry Lewis) to pick a guardian from six uncles, each played by Lewis.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" title="*"
