Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Hidden inside a smartphone, the bustling city of Textopolis is home to all emojis. Each emoji has only one facial expression, except for Gene (T.J. MILLER), an exuberant emoji with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 (JAMES CORDEN) and a notorious code breaker called Jailbreak (ANNA FARIS). During their travels through the other apps, the three emojis discover a great danger that could threaten their phone’s very existence.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>If only I could say this movie was merely \u201cmeh\u201d. I\u2019m not sure if I\u2019ve ever encountered so much corporate B.S. since the crapfest known as Food Fight<\/em>. The Emoji Movie<\/em><\/strong> is an all around terrible movie but because it a 75-minute advert for various apps, but it has an ultra-thin story, terrible writing and not a single joke. It also doesn\u2019t make any use of its cast which includes T.J. Miller, whom I generally like, Anna Faris and… Patrick Stewart in a small role as, ugh, poop with the extra benefit of a \u201cred alert\u201d line. For fuck\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t say I hated the movie. No, there came a point where I gave up. I honestly cannot think of one positive thing to say. Beyond the \u201cscreenplay\u201d, such as it is (co-scripted by Mike White of all people), the animation doesn\u2019t even look good. Sure, it\u2019s not half done like Food Fight<\/em>, but I really expected more from a major studio. I also can\u2019t even say this is harmless fun for kids, outside of 1-4 year olds who might enjoy the bright colors.<\/p>\n

I seriously wonder how The Emoji Movie<\/em><\/strong> got past the scripting stages. Skip.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Express Yourself: Meet the Cast (6:45; HD)<\/u><\/strong> looks at the variety of voices behind the emojis. T.J. Miller\u2019s first words were, paraphrasing, \u201cWhat? They\u2019re doing an emoji\u2019s movie? How are they going to pull that off?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweet App-etite: Making Your Own Candy Crush Saga Cake (6:24; HD)<\/u><\/strong> is another kid-centric feature where you can learn how to make a cake.<\/p>\n

Girls Can Code (5:40; HD)<\/u><\/strong> is a feature on some real-life young ladies who are good at coding.<\/p>\n

Choreographing Emoji with Matt\u00a0 Steffanina (3:33; HD)<\/u><\/strong> is on the dance sequence featured in the film.<\/p>\n

Creating the World Inside Your Phone (4:38; HD)<\/u><\/strong> breaks down the city of Textopolis.<\/p>\n

Bringing Emojis to Life (3:22; HD)<\/u><\/strong> is on animating those unfunny icons.<\/p>\n

The Emoji Movie<\/em><\/strong> comes to the 4K format presented with a 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and a 2160p ultra high-def transfer. If I will say something positive, at least there are bright colors that pop off the small big screen and detail is relatively sharp as one would expect from a CG animated film. The 1080p Blu-ray is basically the same, just not aided by the 4K\u2019s benefit of HDR.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

And the second positive thing I can say, the Dolby Atmos track sounds amazing. Not only are dialogue levels crisp and clear, no surprise there, but there is incredible depth during the action-esque sequences not to mention the various top 100 music that plays. Not sure if I\u2019d go so far to say its reference quality or anything, and why would you want to put this movie in to show off to friends or family, but it\u2019s impressive.<\/p>\n

As always, Sony decides to put a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, not sure why the Atmos track couldn\u2019t be placed on the Blu-ray disc, and as such… still sounds quite good. It might not have the depth compared to the 4K, I still found it to sound pretty good all things considered.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
