PLOT SYNOPSIS
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Wolf Larsen (EDWARD G. ROBINSON) is a brutal sea captain of the seal-hunting schooner \u201cGhost,\u201d who gives save haven to fugitives George Leach (JOHN GARFIELD), Ruth Webster (IDA LUPINO) and writer Humphrey van Weyden (ALEXANDER KNOX). Larsen\u2019s crew mutinies against his horrific abuses; van Weyden, Webster and Leach attempt an escape, only to return to find what they think is a deserted ship. They tangle with Larsen, during which the commander reveals a dark secret he\u2019s been hiding as he and the boat sail toward disaster. The supporting cast includes Barry Fitzgerald, Gene Lockhart and Howard da Silva in pivotal roles.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The features are on the lighter side with only the Screen Director\u2019s Playhouse Radio Broadcast<\/u><\/strong> from 1950 and the Theatrical Trailer<\/u><\/strong>. Considering what the studio had to do, wish there was some sort of restoration featurette…<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This is not just some cobbled together release from the Warner Archive Collection, instead The Sea Wolf<\/em><\/strong> has been restored from a 4K scan of the film\u2019s original film negative and even re-inserted 14-minutes of missing footage cut by the director in order for the film to get more showings in the theaters. Luckily, the original 35mm film of this footage was located.<\/p>\n

Not only did the video get restored, but the soundtrack got a makeover as well. The DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track sounds rather good from the crisp, clear and clean dialogue levels to the rip-roaring, tilde-wave action sequences which do have some nice depth to them.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, The Sea Wolf<\/em><\/strong> is a wonderful sea-adventure flick released back in 1941 and features some great performances including Edward G. Robinson and amazing Academy Award nominated special effects. Beyond the movie, I cannot sing the praises more for the restored video and audio transfers, top-notch work done by WAC.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
