Season four of\u00a0The Originals<\/em>\u00a0begins on the fifth anniversary of the Mikaelson family\u2019s greatest defeat. Although Marcel Gerard has ushered in a new era of peace in the French Quarter, an army of unsired vampires has arrived seeking to bargain for the life of Marcel\u2019s infamous captive, the Original hybrid, Klaus.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the other Mikaelson siblings remain in an enchanted sleep Freya designed to keep them safe, buying Hayley time to find a cure for them \u2013 while also protecting her daughter, Hope. After a daring rescue, the Mikaelsons are reunited, only to find themselves faced with an even bigger threat: the revival of an ancient evil that has strong ties to their most vulnerable family member.<\/p>\n

Following a devastating attack by this nightmarish entity, the Mikaelsons discover there is only one way to save themselves \u2013 they must stand their ground in New Orleans and forge an alliance with their former friends, both Marcel and the leader of the New Orleans witches, Vincent Griffith. With the city of New Orleans consumed by a seemingly all-powerful cult hell-bent on child kidnappings and ghastly rituals, Klaus must face his own inner demons as he struggles to become the father he never had, to the child he is only now getting to know.<\/p>\n

The Originals<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray presented in its original televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors appear to be vibrant in keeping with the New Orleans setting and the numerous nighttime scenes are stark and show no major signs of artifacts or pixilation. Detail levels are also sharp showing off each pore on the faces in the close-up shots. (Copied from my Season 1 Review)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track seems to be improved for the second season. Dialogue levels are still crisp and clear but the ambient noises and other elements, like the occasional fight scene, offers decent-to-good depth while the score and choice music make fine use of the front and rear channels. It\u2019s a solid lossless track that might not offer the wow factor or anything but is in some ways still impressive.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, this fourth season of The Originals<\/em><\/strong> is, for me, more of the same. Some of the stories aren\u2019t terribly compelling (so to speak) but I still enjoy Joseph Morgan\u2019s Klaus character and at least the season is watchable and being only 13 episodes, can be done over the course of a couple days. The Blu-ray released through the Warner Archive Collection offers good video\/audio but is light in the features department.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
