SEASON SYNOPSIS

Season four of\u00a0The Originals<\/em>\u00a0begins on the fifth anniversary of the Mikaelson family\u2019s greatest defeat. Although Marcel Gerard has ushered in a new era of peace in the French Quarter, an army of unsired vampires has arrived seeking to bargain for the life of Marcel\u2019s infamous captive, the Original hybrid, Klaus.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the other Mikaelson siblings remain in an enchanted sleep Freya designed to keep them safe, buying Hayley time to find a cure for them \u2013 while also protecting her daughter, Hope. After a daring rescue, the Mikaelsons are reunited, only to find themselves faced with an even bigger threat: the revival of an ancient evil that has strong ties to their most vulnerable family member.<\/p>\n

Following a devastating attack by this nightmarish entity, the Mikaelsons discover there is only one way to save themselves \u2013 they must stand their ground in New Orleans and forge an alliance with their former friends, both Marcel and the leader of the New Orleans witches, Vincent Griffith. With the city of New Orleans consumed by a seemingly all-powerful cult hell-bent on child kidnappings and ghastly rituals, Klaus must face his own inner demons as he struggles to become the father he never had, to the child he is only now getting to know.<\/p>\n

Upon learning the truth – that their evil adversary cannot be killed – the Mikaelson siblings will have no choice but to stand together \u2013 even if this is to be their final battle.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The 3-disc set comes in a standard DVD case which side-slides into a matted slip cover<\/strong>. The features are on the lighter side with only 2016 Comic-Con Panel<\/u><\/strong> footage, Come Visit Georgia<\/u><\/strong> promotional featurette, some Unaired Scenes<\/u><\/strong> on 9 out of the 13 episodes and a Gag Reel<\/u><\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The Originals<\/em><\/strong> comes to DVD presented in its originally televised 1.78 anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio which looks fine showing off both bright colors and rich blacks; and each episode is given a standard but effective enough Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound track.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, this fourth season of The Originals<\/em><\/strong> is, for me, more of the same. Some of the stories aren\u2019t terribly compelling (so to speak) but I still enjoy Joseph Morgan\u2019s Klaus character and at least the season is watchable and being only 13 episodes, can be done over the course of a couple days. The DVD release is basic with solid video and audio transfers but the features are on the lacking side.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
