This 1962 remake of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II\u2019s 1945 movie musical, State Fair<\/strong><\/em>, stars Pat Boone and Pamela Tiffin as a pair of innocent Texas country mice who find complicated romance with, respectively, Ann-Margret and Bobby Darin at the titular big event. Alice Faye and Tom Ewell are their concerned parents. The Academy Award\u00ae-winning classic, \u201cIt Might As Well Be Spring,\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s a Grand Night for Singing\u201d are joined by five new songs with music and lyrics by Rodgers written for this remake.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

There\u2019s some decent features here including an Audio Commentary<\/u><\/strong> with Actor Pat Boone as he recollects about his work on the movie; From Page to Screen to Stage (29:51; SD)<\/u><\/strong> looking at adapting the musical for the movie and on stage; the Stage Fair<\/u><\/em> TV Pilot (50:04; HD)<\/u><\/strong> which, obviously, didn\u2019t get picked up to series; and tto Original Theatrical Trailers<\/u><\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Twilight Time releases State Fair<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray and is presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. This was actually a fantastic looking transfer, not something always a given for a TT release; colors are incredibly bright and detail is sharp and nicely defined throughout. There were a couple minor specs but for the most part it is fairly clean transfer.<\/p>\n

The disc comes with 4.0 and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks, both of which are serviceable enough however nothing noteworthy. The former obviously has a tad more depth between sound effects (like the racing scene) and music, but both provide crisp and clear dialogue levels.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, State Fair<\/em><\/strong> is a fun little musical romp from the 1960s with many of that era\u2019s idyllic romance and music. I\u2019m not terribly familiar with the source material or other versions, but this one is entertaining. Twilight Time\u2019s Blu-ray includes good video\/audio transfers and a better than usual bonus materials, highlighted by the TV pilot.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
