\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Dashing European thief Sir Charles Lytton (DAVID NIVEN) plans to steal a diamond, but he’s not the only one with his eyes on the famous jewel known as the “Pink Panther.” His nephew George (ROBERT WAGNER) also aims to make off with the gem, and to frame Charles for the crime. Blundering French police inspector Jacques Clouseau (PETER SELLERS) intercedes, but finds his career \u2013 and his freedom \u2013 jeopardized.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>The first entry into the vaunted(?) franchise introduces us to the comic genius that was Peter Sellers, though he\u2019s surprisingly, at least to someone watching these for the first time, a secondary character whereas Niven\u2019s Sir Charles is pretty much the main role. While not a perfect movie, with many scenes going on a bit too long, the finale bringing together the factions of characters was side-splittingly hilarious.<\/p>\n

A Shot in the Dark<\/em><\/strong> (1964) \u2014 3.75\/5
\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Inspector Clouseau (SELLERS) is called to a house where a murder was committed and finds that every clue points to the beautiful maid, Maria (ELKE SOMMER). As more people are killed, each set of clues always points to Maria, and Clouseau continues to release and escort her around town.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>Widely considered to be the best of the Clouseau movies, I found this one to be ever so slightly below the first movie and ever so slightly above The Pink Panther Strikes Back<\/em>, mainly because this is the most consistent of the bunch and features a genuine mystery at its core while still retaining Sellers\u2019 comic wit and charms.<\/p>\n

The Return of the Pink Panther<\/em><\/strong> (1975) \u2014 3.0\/5
\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>After he lets a robbery transpire right under his nose, the ever-bumbling Inspector Clouseau (SELLERS) is suspended by Chief Inspector Dreyfus (HERBERT LOM). But, when the famed Pink Panther diamond is stolen from the National Museum in Lugash, the Shah requests Clouseau’s assistance, and he’s reinstated. Clouseau quickly concludes that the thief must be the infamous Phantom (CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER), against whom he has a grudge, but the inspector’s instincts are, as usual, wrong.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>This is the film that brought back Clouseau nemesis, Sir Charles but due to scheduling issues, David Niven did not return and instead Christopher Plummer took over in the role. Don\u2019t get me wrong, Plummer is a fantastic actor but completely wrong in the role as he lacked Niven\u2019s suave. Now, it\u2019s not a big deal for a character to change personalities in a franchise that doesn\u2019t exactly concern itself with continuity.<\/p>\n

The Pink Panther Strikes Again<\/em><\/strong> (1976) \u2014 3.5\/5
\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Just released from a mental hospital, Charles Dreyfus (LOM) intends to off Inspector Clouseau (SELLERS), a former underling whose blundering drove the lawman around the bend. Dreyfus captures a scientist, ordering him to create a weapon that will destroy the planet, and threatens world leaders with annihilation unless they hand over his nemesis.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review:<\/strong> This fifth film in the franchise is probably the most outlandish of the bunch and a spoof of the 1970s-era James Bond turning Dreyfus into a Bloefeld-like character but instead of threatening the world for money and\/or power, but instead to kill Clouseau and nations around the world send their best to do the job. Lots of genuinely funny, laugh-out-loud, scenes that not only showcase Sellers\u2019 physical comedy but Lom gets to shine as well.<\/p>\n

Revenge of the Pink Panther<\/em><\/strong> (1978) \u2014 3.0\/5
\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>When French drug kingpin Philippe Douvier (ROBERT WEBBER) learns that he’s losing the respect of New York mob bosses, he decides to murder Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau (SELLERS) to regain his reputation. After a case of mistaken identity, Clouseau is declared dead, much to the delight of his former boss, Charles Dreyfus (LOM). When Clouseau reemerges, he teams up with Douvier’s ex-lover, Simone LeGree (DYAN CANNON), to break up the drug trafficking operation.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>Where The Pink Panther Strikes Again<\/em> spoofed James Bond, Revenge<\/em><\/strong> took on The Godfather<\/em> and while this is not the strongest in the collection, with humor that went flat the more it went on, Sellers still is strong and the beautiful Dyan Cannon is a standout… and knockout.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Chief Inspector Clouseau (SELLERS) is summoned to the country of Lugash to investigate another robbery of the eponymous diamond. After developing some disguises, Clouseau embarks by plane and mysteriously vanishes en route. Hoping to solve the conundrum, enterprising journalist Marie Jouvet (JOANNA LUMLEY) interviews those closest to Clouseau, including his father (RICHARD MULLIGAN), his boss (LOM) and his old nemesis, Sir Charles Litton (NIVEN).<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>This was absolutely awful to the point where I didn\u2019t laugh once and even was a tad angry that this got made. Not sure I can blame Blake Edwards, perhaps he genuinely wanted to honor an old friend but why someone at the studio didn\u2019t speak up and allowed this to be made is astounding. Well… it is Hollywood. Beyond that, any new material (with \u201c\u201d for Sellers) just wasn\u2019t funny and a fair portion is comprised of archive footage.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
