Originally this was rumored to have an R-rated version but instead it\u2019s PG-13 and, from what I can tell, there\u2019s not much of, if any, difference (the original was Not Rated).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/ucFyz1S.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Wonder Woman\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/ucFyz1S.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest member of the DC Universe Original Animated Movies line of direct-to-video movies, <strong><em>Wonder Woman<\/em><\/strong>, is a finely animated, though very short, feature film that introduces us to the Amazon princess that before this the masses only knew from Lynda Carter\u2019s live action TV series in the 1970s. <strong><em>Wonder Woman<\/em><\/strong> follows other DC Universe animated movies that began in 2007 with <em>Superman: Doomsday<\/em> followed by <em>Justice League: The New Frontier<\/em> and <em>Batman: Gotham Knight<\/em> in 2008.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Wonder Woman<\/strong> is an origin story based on the \u201cGods and Mortals\u201d comic book story arc by George P\u00e9rez released in 1987. The movie begins with a <strong>300<\/strong>-like battle between the Amazon women and an army led by the God of War, Ares (voiced by Alfred Molina). The Amazon\u2019s queen Hippolyta (Virginia Madsen) defeats Ares, and killing their son, but is ordered not to kill him by Zeus to keep him prisoner where he is branded with bracelets that will not allow him to use his powers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/t9VA1Ee.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Wonder Woman\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/t9VA1Ee.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As with the \u201cGods and Mortals\u201d storyline, Hippolyta receives a daughter as a gift from the gods and together with the remaining Amazons live in peace on the island of Themyscira, cut off from the outside world of man&#8230; until fighter jet pilot Steve Trevor (Nathan Fillion) crashes on the island and is captured by the queen\u2019s daughter, Diana (Keri Russell). After determining Trevor is not a threat, the Amazons hold a competition to see who will represent them and return Trevor to the outside world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite going against her mother\u2019s wishes, Diana competes and wins but her duties go beyond returning Trevor after Ares escapes from his cell (with the help of a fellow Amazon) and now she must, donning the hot \u201cWonder Woman\u201d we all know and love, hunt down and capture Ares before he unleashes war upon the modern world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Outside of Lynda Carter\u2019s beautiful, um, performance was Wonder Woman on the TV series, I\u2019ve actually never been a fan of the character (to be honest, Superman isn\u2019t that high on my list either) but I admire what the filmmakers have done with this animated feature film and what DC Universe has been doing with them unveiling a couple each year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/3euVgZr.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Wonder Woman\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/3euVgZr.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Producer Bruce Timm, the man most associated with bringing us \u201cBatman: The Animated Series\u201d, one of the best animated series ever made, gives Wonder Woman a breath of new life and a uniqueness in the superhero world rarely seen. There\u2019s no doubt the character did a lot in the cause of women\u2019s rights as she was one of the first comic book characters created that could compete with the boys.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As far as the animated movie goes, <strong><em>Wonder Woman<\/em><\/strong> is a fun adventure with some of that sly humor and the voice chemistry between Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion was fantastic (the two worked together on 2007\u2019s <em>Waitress<\/em>). The voice casting for the villain Ares by Alfred Molina brings a bit of sinisterly depth while we get the voice talents of Rosario Dawson as a tough Amazonian, David McCallum (TV\u2019s <em>NCIS<\/em> and also was the voice of Alfred on <em>Batman: Gotham Knight<\/em>) as Zeus, Marg Helgenberger (TV\u2019s <em>CSI<\/em>) as Hera, Oliver Platt as Hades and Virginia Madsen as Diana\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/3H2sQFy.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-screencapture aligncenter\" title=\"Wonder Woman\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/3H2sQFy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Wonder Woman<\/em><\/strong> isn\u2019t the greatest animated movie but as a re-introduction to a character long dormant (I believe the comic book was cancelled), it\u2019s a good origin and adventure story that could lay the groundwork for either DTV sequels or even a <em>Wonder Woman: The Animated Series<\/em> for television.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This release comes with an embossed and glossy <strong>slip cover<\/strong>. Colors are vibrant without being too bright in some areas and with the animation style; it\u2019s not a bad looking film. This 1080p high-definition transfer looks great as I noticed no real flaws within the picture and the animation looks sharp.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<table id=\"review-content\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>AUDIO \u2013 3.5\/5<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td id=\"review-content2\">The original TrueHD track has been replaced with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 one this go around. It\u2019s not the most robust track and is a bit weak on the lower ends as demonstrated by the opening battle sequence. It\u2019s no surprise Warner would release this \u201cCommemorative Edition\u201d as a way to drum up more awareness for their live action feature film, though I am disappointed that the video\/audio transfers seem basically the same and the only new feature is a sneak peek at <em>Batman &amp; Harley Quinn<\/em> animated movie.
