Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>While Django (TERENCE HILL) transports gold on stagecoach, it\u2019s robbed by bandits, working for an old acquaintance and crooked politician David Barry (HORST FRANK), and in the process, Django\u2019s wife is killed. Later, Django, working as a hangman for a small town, fakes the deaths of several innocents building his own posse to exact revenge on Barry and his cronies. Complications arise, though, when the very folks he helped turn rogue robbing another stagecoach intent on keeping the gold for themselves.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>I\u2019m not entirely familiar with the Django<\/em> character not even seeing Tarantino\u2019s homage to the character and genre, Django Unchained<\/em>. So Django, Prepare a Coffin<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 co-scripted and directed by Ferdinando Baldi \u2014 is my first foray and while the western genre isn\u2019t my thing, I thoroughly enjoyed this entry which, from what I\u2019ve read, is one of the few that has any connection to the original, even loosely. Terence Hill is fantastic in the lead role and I found the plot engaging and the villain, albeit cardboard cutout in nature, evil enough to root for our hero.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This two-disc release (BD+DVD) comes housed in a clear HD Keep Case. Inside is a nice 14-page booklet<\/strong> containing essays and production stills. Also included is a reversible cover artwork. While I like the default cover, it\u2019s awfully spoiler-y…<\/p>\n

The features are rather light with only an Interview (8:33; HD)<\/u><\/strong> with spaghetti western author Kevin Grant and the Theatrical Trailer (3:05; HD)<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Django, Prepare a Coffin<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Arrow Video and is presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer at 2K resolution from a 35mm interpositive and digitally restored and color corrected. The picture doesn\u2019t exactly look fantastic but at least does look clean free of any noticeable or heavy scratches or other damages, though colors are on the drab side, albeit that might be how it looked upon its release.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The disc comes with both an English and Italian DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track, either option is sufficient providing crisp and clear dialogue levels while the music comes through the center channel quite nicely with little signs of topping out (as I call it). For a movie going on close to 50 years now, it\u2019s impressive enough though hardly reference quality work even for the genre and era.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The 2-disc Blu-ray\/DVD release from Arrow Video offers up good video\/audio transfers but rather limited in the features department.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
