Plot Synopsis: Moana<\/em><\/strong> is about a spirited teenager (AULI\u2019I CRAVALHO) who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (DWAYNE JOHNSON), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/strong>For the most part, Pixar (owned by the Mouse Company) has dominated the world of animation but every once in a while, Walt Disney Animation Studios reminds us they release some quality films. Frozen<\/em> was a big hit a few years ago and while it was enjoyable, I wasn\u2019t quite as enthralled with it compared to some. I had similar feelings toward Entangled<\/em>, though both of these were still entertaining.<\/p>\n

Moana<\/em><\/strong> on the other hand, seems to be a return to the classic animated musicals, a reminder of the likes of The Little Mermaid <\/em>and Aladdin<\/em>. The songs themselves are as memorable (How Far I\u2019ll Go is my favorite) but they are all catchy and in conjunction with a well written story and two fleshed out main characters, this was one of my favorites of a rather weak year in films.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with the music, the story is inspirational. Boiling it down, it\u2019s not exactly anything new but it\u2019s hard not to identify in some way with the Moana or Maui characters, both struggling through personal issues that translates well in today\u2019s society, and the film has a message that pertains to both kids and adults alike, something Disney tends to do well and where the rest (like Fox and their Ice Age<\/em> franchise or DreamWorks\u2019 Madagascar<\/em> series) seem to cater to a younger crowd while their parents probably tolerate the material and the movies are only there as a distraction…<\/p>\n

In the end, Moana<\/em><\/strong> is likely Disney\u2019s best animated film since Beauty and the Beast<\/em> and features two wonderful vocal performances with Auli\u2019i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, the latter playing up to his strengths while the young Cravalho does nicely personifying Moana.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Maui Mini-Movie: Gone Fishing<\/em> (2:29; HD)<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 When Maui decides it\u2019s time to take charge of the ocean and catch his next meal, Moana must show him the error of his ways \u2026 with a little help from her friends.<\/p>\n
