USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage<\/em><\/strong> is the true story of the heavy cruiser commanded by Captain Charles McVay (NICOLAS CAGE) who has been tasked with delivering parts of the atomic bomb that would later be used to target and level Hiroshima during the waning days of World War II. During this voyage, the ship is torpedoed and sunk killing hundreds while survivors are left stranded in an open, shark-infested ocean where those who weren\u2019t killed from either sharks, hallucinations or drinking seawater, are left to fend for themselves over the course of five days. When they are finally rescued, the trial begins as the government wants to find somebody at fault for the disaster, namely Captain McVay himself.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Lionsgate releases USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray shown with a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec). For the most part, this looks like a fine transfer with decent detail throughout and pretty bright colors as well. Where it falters is with the shoddy visual effects which are not only noticeably bad but becomes distracting in some instances. Even so, this does at least look clean and there were no noticeable instances of artifacts or aliasing.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

For a movie with a fair amount of war-action scenes, this 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is rather lackluster in that regard while dialogue levels, for which there\u2019s plenty of especially for the aftermath, does sound pretty good with clarity coming mainly from the center channel with the front and rears being relegated for the score or ambient noises.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, well intentioned as it might have been, and telling a World War II story that\u2019s probably not familiar to the average American, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage<\/em><\/strong> features lazy performances, especially by Nicolas Cage though he does have a couple okay scenes, and some laughable visual effects, this is at best a Netflix rental and nothing more. The Blu-ray released by Lionsgate has good video\/audio transfers and a solo featurette that was somewhat informative.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
