<\/a>Weiner<\/em><\/strong> is a great documentary showcasing the rise and, particularly, fall of someone, although feisty, is a narcissist and as such is probably a poster child of what\u2019s wrong with politicians. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Filmmakers Josh Kriegman (who apparently worked for Weiner in the past hence his access) and Elyse Steinberg were granted unfettered access to Anthony Weiner and his campaign to become the next mayor of New York City. The film opens with a fiery Anthony Weiner on the House floor vigorously arguing for a bill and railing against the GOP, showcasing his rising star. It\u2019s a good way to start before he would ultimately fall from grace. And comeback. And fall from grace again.<\/p>\n

After resigning from congress, Anthony Weiner, with the help of his dutiful wife Huma Abedin, mounts a comeback to run for NYC mayor and at first, finds success, that the first polls had him up top of a 5 person race. It would seem his sexting scandal was behind him as he had fervent supporters working hard, getting out to the streets and hitting the phones to open up the checkbooks to finance the campaign. But apparently Weiner was unable to keep *it* in his pants and his online persona \u201cCarlos Danger\u201d was born and with it, any chance at higher office disappeared (and his behavior hasn\u2019t changed since).<\/p>\n

Weiner<\/em><\/strong> is one heck of a documentary showcasing, perhaps to the extreme, what is wrong with our politicians today. Although he was fierce in fighting for what he believed in (at least what I think he did), his inability for even a moderate amount of self control, not to mention a lack of respect for his wife and newborn son is telling, though for Huma Abedin, she has her sights elsewhere, though it\u2019s hard not to feel for her.<\/p>\n

Directed by Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg, Weiner<\/em><\/strong> is a fascinating portrait of a man with aspirations that he himself squashed and like the aftermath of a car crash, and one you know that\u2019s coming, it\u2019s difficult not to look away especially after Mr. Danger begins to unravel not only against the media but his supposed constituents.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Weiner<\/em><\/strong> arrives on DVD through MPI and although nothing special, it\u2019s a decent enough transfer while the Dolby Digital 5.1 track is effective enough where dialogue is clear and Jeff Beal\u2019s score comes through relatively well.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
