<\/a>Julia<\/em><\/strong> (1977) is a well made period drama featuring strong performances by Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave, along with Jason Robards well. This \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray released by Twilight Time isn\u2019t exceptional yet the video and audio transfers are both well done and the new commentary with Fonda is interesting.<\/p>\n

Adapted by Alvin Sargent from a chapter in Lillian Hellman\u2019s \u201cmemoir\u201d, \u2018Pentimento\u2019, and directed by Fred Zinnemann, Julia<\/em><\/strong> centers on the famously flinty Hellman (JANE FONDA) and her childhood friend, Julia (VANESSA REDGRAVE), a young woman from a wealthy upper-crust American family who becomes a ferocious anti-Fascist in Europe during the prelude to World War II. The film also stars Jason Robards who took home the Oscar for his portrayal as Hellman\u2019s tough lover, the writer Dashiell Hammett, and Maximilian Schell as a deceptively mild-mannered resistance member.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Julia<\/em><\/strong> debuts on Blu-ray through Twilight Time. Presented in its original theatrical 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio, the picture doesn\u2019t look too bad; detail is fairly sharp and there were no major instances of artifacts or aliasing, though I did notice some specs. Colors aren\u2019t terrible vibrant but it is in keeping with the historical time period the film is set in.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The disc comes with a basic but effective DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 track which, for a film that\u2019s more drama than action, is more than enough. Dialogue levels sound crisp and clean throughout and when the score kicks in, as well as ambient noise, there\u2019s some OK depth coming from the singular channel.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
