A young woman in her 20s, Therese Belivet (ROONEY MARA), is a clerk working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (CATE BLANCHETT), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens. Anchor Bay releases Carol<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The movie itself is generally warm in tone with colors geared more towards orange and brown hues though there are splashes here and there and detail is by and large sharp. It\u2019s nothing I\u2019d say is reference quality but there is a richness and refinement that is common with Todd Haynes\u2019s films.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is pretty basic but serviceable. The bulk of the audio is dialogue-driven which is crisp and clean throughout with any depth being provided by long-time and veteran composer, Carter Burwell, which is a beautiful yet haunting score. There is some ambient noises, like sounds from the streets or in a restaurant, that resonates through the rear channels nicely enough.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, a well made movie from Todd Haynes, finely adapted from Patricia Highsmith\u2019s best-selling novel, Carol<\/em><\/strong> features strong performances by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, which really propels the plot and makes it so engaging from beginning to end. The Blu-ray released by Anchor Bay has great video\/audio transfers and an OK selection of bonus material.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
