Nineteen Eighty-Four<\/em><\/strong>, adapted from George Orwell\u2019s classic dystopian novel by writer-director Michael Radford, centers on Winston Smith (JOHN HURT), a drone in a totalitarian state dominated by the supreme figurehead, Big Brother. Attempting to break out, he has an affair with Julia (SUZANNA HAMILTON), a rebellious sensualist, but then has to deal with O\u2019Brien (RICHARD BURTON in his final screen role), a powerful tool of the state.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Twilight Time releases 1984<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray shown with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and in keeping with the dystopian future, colors are almost void making way for darker tones which isn\u2019t bad with a nice starkness in the darker scenes and decent detail in the lighter ones. There\u2019s some obvious film grain and noise but considering the film\u2019s age, it doesn\u2019t look half bad.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The movie was given a 1.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track which provides for crisp and clean dialogue levels and the audio effects, as well as the music from the Eurythmics and Dominic Muldowney (which is presented here as an isolated track), comes through the center channel fairly well.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Overall, 1984<\/em><\/strong> is a prolific adaptation based on an equally prolific novel that features some fine performances highlighted by John Hurt and amazing cinematography by the legendary Roger Deakins. The Blu-ray released through Twilight Time is light on features unfortunately but the video and audio transfers are both well done.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
