When her marriage falls apart, Agn\u00e8s Le Roux (AD\u00c8LE HAENEL) moves back to the South of France from Africa to live with her mother, Ren\u00e9e (CATHERINE DENEUVE), owner of the Palais de la Mediterran\u00e9e casino in Nice. There Agn\u00e8s falls in love with Maurice Agnelet (GUILLAUME CANET), a lawyer and Ren\u00e9e\u2019s business advisor, who is ten years her senior. Maurice continues to have relationships with other women. Agn\u00e8s is madly in love with him. As a shareholder in the Palais de la Mediterran\u00e9e casino, Agn\u00e8s decides to sell what should have been her inheritance to go it alone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A fixed card game threatens the casino\u2019s financial stability. Someone is trying to intimidate her mother. Behind the scenes hangs the shadow of the mafia and Fratoni, the owner of a rival casino, who wants to take over the Palais de la Mediterran\u00e9e. Agnelet, who has fall from grace with Ren\u00e9e, introduces Agn\u00e8s to Fratoni. Fratoni offers her 3 million francs to vote against her mother in the shareholder\u2019s meeting. Agn\u00e8s accepts the offer. Ren\u00e9e loses control of the casino. Agn\u00e8s finds it hard to cope with her betrayal and Maurice distances himself from her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In November 1977, after a failed suicide attempt, Agn\u00e8s disappears and her body is never found. Thirty years later, Maurice Agnelet remains a prime suspect in a murder case with no body and no proof of his guilt. The picture itself is fairly vibrant with a good array of colors while detail levels are decent enough though not overly sharp or well defined in some shots. Still, it\u2019s a fine transfer.<br \/>\n<a name=\"audio\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"*\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviemansguide.com\/images\/main\/bar_blue.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The French language DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track isn\u2019t overly impressive but considering the bulk of the film is comprised of moodily quiet scenes filled with dialogue, it\u2019s more than adequate all things considered.
