Re-Kan is a cute little anime series that has a far more supernatural element compared to others which seemed geared more toward science fiction or inner spirit plots and characters, so it was at least a nice change-up.

THE COLLECTION

Narumi Inoue has a problem with the new girl in school. It’s not that Hibiki Amami is impolite or a bully… it’s just that she sees, speaks with, and befriends ghosts! Now, it’s at the point when Amami’s around, Inoue sometimes sees them too, spelling disaster for a girl who’s terrified of anything supernatural. However, Amami’s genuine kindness makes it hard for Inoue to ignore her, especially when her friends Kyoko, Kana, and Makoto, as well as the other students, have accepted Amami’s habit of talking to thin air and walking around invisible obstacles.

With gentle coaxing (and the knowledge that her departed grandmother is watching over her), Inoue finds herself immersed in Amami’s strange, otherworldly adventures. Fulfilling the last wishes of the dead might not be a normal after-school activity, but at least they’ll always know why the ghost crossed to the other side in RE-KAN!

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.0/5

Not much included here, just Clean Opening and Closing Animations.

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Sentai Filmworks delivers Re-Kan! onto Blu-ray presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors generally are bright as customary for anime but the image can be a tad soft and not very well defined. Still, it does look good with a certain amount of pop with the vibrant colors.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The disc only comes with a Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo track, with English subtitles, and it sounds decent enough providing for clear dialogue levels and even ambient noises make nice usage of those front speakers.

OVERALL – 2.75/5

Overall, Re-Kan is a cute little anime series that has a far more supernatural element compared to others which seemed geared more toward science fiction or inner spirit plots and characters, so it was at least a nice change-up. The Blu-ray itself is pretty basic with limited features while the video/audio transfers are well done.
