Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is an entertaining movie although it is the throwaway variety of entertainment as it’s easily forgotten soon after it’s over, but while watching, I did have fun with the ensemble cast.

The opinions I share are my own.

THE MOVIE — 3½/5

Plot Synopsis: Charming thief Edgin (CHRIS PINE) and a band of unlikely adventurers — Holga (MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ), Simon (JUSTICE SMITH) and Doric (SOPHIA LILLIS) — embark on an epic quest to retrieve a long lost relic, but their charming adventure goes dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

Quick Hit Review: The popular strategy game “Dungeons and Dragons” gets another stab at a feature film following the disastrous 2000 version which is only worth watching for Jeremy Irons’s over-the-top performance and very little else. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a fun fantasy-adventure film that has a decent enough of a plot and Chris Pine once again shows off his charms while Hugh Grant makes for a fun villain.

Under the direction of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the dynamic duo behind the highly entertaining and hilarious Game Night, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is certainly a giant step up from the atrocious 2000 version, of course that’s a very low bar. Having never played, I can’t say how well this adheres to the game but as a film, it’s fine disposable entertainment.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 3½/5

This release comes with a glossy slip cover and as with many of the recent Paramount releases, this only has the 4K Ultra HD disc.

Broadswords, Battleaxes & Badass Brawls (8:40) is on the weapons, how they were created, and breaking down the stuntwork.

Last up is a Gag Reel (6:51) and Deleted/Extended Scenes (10:35), mostly extended.

VIDEO – 4½/5, AUDIO – 4¾/5

Paramount releases Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves onto 4K Ultra HD and is presented in the original 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and a 2160p high-definition transfer. While not the best looking 4K however still looks quite good, detail is relatively sharp while colors are well balanced though keeping more toward natural tones.

The movie comes with a robust Dolby Atmos track which really comes to life during the numerous action sequences while the few quieter, more dialogue-driven, scenes still offer some good depth for ambient noises. I don’t consider this a lossless track that will give your surround system a workout but still impressive nonetheless.

OVERALL — 3¾/5

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is an entertaining movie although it is the throwaway variety of entertainment as it’s easily forgotten soon after it’s over, but while watching, I did have fun with the ensemble cast.
