The Big Easy is a forgettable but still mildly entertaining romance-thriller with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. I doubt I’d watch this one again anytime soon but worth at least one viewing.

Kino Lorber provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post.
The opinions I share are my own.

THE MOVIE — 3½/5

Plot Synopsis: When a hood’s murder triggers a bloody gangland drug war, detective Remy McSwain (DENNIS QUAID) is on the scene. He’s a smooth-talkin’ cop who fits right in with the easy style of Cajun country. Remy meets his match in Anne Osborne (ELLEN BARKIN), a no-nonsense Assistant District Attorney in town to investigate police corruption. At odds from the moment they meet, their electrically charged attraction keeps the sparks flying.

Quick Hit Review: The Big Easy is an enjoyable yet also pretty forgettable romantic-suspense-thriller with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin showing some great chemistry together and there’s enough of a plot, albeit predictable, to keep one entertained. This is one of the those films that is worth watching once but not worth a second viewing.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2/5

This release comes with a matted slip cover and features include an Audio Commentary with Director Jim McBride, Moderated by Filmmaker Douglas Hasdale, as well as the Theatrical Trailer.

VIDEO – 4/5

Kino Lorber releases The Big Easy onto Blu-ray where it’s presented with a 1080p high-definition transfer and in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio. Since there’s no mention on the back cover, there doesn’t appear any restoration work was done. Even so, detail on this was decent enough while colors are well balanced if not on the darker side of the spectrum.

AUDIO – 3¾/5

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo track which is perfectly fine for a movie that has more dialogue-driven scenes than anything action-packed outside of the finale which did feature a depth-filled explosion.

OVERALL – 3/5

The Big Easy is a forgettable but still mildly entertaining romance-thriller with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. I doubt I’d watch this one again anytime soon but worth at least one viewing.
