Usually the western genre isn’t my thing, but even so, Warlock is well made and features a great cast headlined by Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn.

Hired to protect a small mining town in Utah, gunslinger Clay Blaisedell (HENRY FONDA) and his devoted follower, Tom Morgan (ANTHONY QUINN), partake in numerous liberties afforded by their position of power. When reformed thug Johnny Gannon (RICHARD WIDMARK) takes the post of sheriff, he finds himself in competition with the town’s hired guns. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5 |
This comes with an 8-page booklet. The only features is the Fox Movietone Newsreel (1:00) and the Original Theatrical Trailer (2:46). |
VIDEO – 4.5/5, AUDIO – 4.25/5 |
Twilight Time releases Warlock onto Blu-ray where it’s presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and has been given a 1080p high-definition. Although it’s doubtful Fox, who provided the print, underwent some sort of restoration work but even so, this looked really good in HD. Colors are in line with the time period where tones are on the natural realm. Detail is sharp and while there were some minor specs, this was a great looking transfer.
The disc includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track along with a 2.0 option, the former being default when watching. This track does sound quite good outputting crisp and clear dialogue and some minor depth for the other channels, albeit minimally utilized. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
Usually the western genre isn’t my thing, but even so, Warlock is well made and features a great cast headlined by Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn. The Blu-ray includes good video and audio transfers though features are light. |
