The 1996 version of Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? was certainly terrible but oh so entertaining especially the laugh-filled finale, along with the poor acting from beginning to end. I can’t quite say the same for the “re-imagining”

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? (1996)
When Laurel (TORI SPELLING), a compulsive and highly disciplined overachiever, meets the handsome and charming Kevin Shane (IVAN SERGEI) at college, she quickly falls in love without knowing anything about his true identity or past. Struggling to break free from her meddling mother, Laurel becomes deeply involved with Kevin, but as their whirlwind relationship intensifies, she begins to see how Kevin’s extreme passion and smothering affection are isolating her from her friends. When Laurel decides to break off their romance, Kevin is determined to hold onto her at any cost, and it’s up to Laurel’s mother, in a desperate race against time, to save her daughter before it’s too late.Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? (2016)
In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the cult classic, this remake of the classic TV movie stars James Franco and reunites Tori Spelling and Ivan Sergei from the original film and also features Leila George, Emily Meade and Nick Eversman. With a story by Franco, this updated classic features a vampire love story that brings a whole new meaning to “sleeping with danger.”

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

VIDEO – 3.0/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

Both versions are presented with a 16×9 enhanced 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio, but strangely enough, the 1996 movie actually looks a little better as the new movie appears splotchy and overly sharpened. The Dolby Digital 2.0 track for the original was serviceable while the Dolby Digital 5.1 on the new film did have good depth, especially when the blood begins flowing.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, the 1996 version of Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? was certainly terrible but oh so entertaining especially the laugh-filled finale, along with the poor acting from beginning to end. I can’t quite say the same for the “re-imagining” as it just was bad with none of the fun factor.
