S.W.A.T. aired before my time and I never watched when it was on syndication (presuming it was at some point) but it is a franchise that has endured with a Hollywood movie, a few direct-to-video spin-offs and now a remake series on CBS.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

S.W.A.T. chronicles the covert missions of the LAPD’s Special Weapons And Tactics unit, an elite five-man group tackling situations too dangerous for even the police to handle. The show introduced a new breed of hard-as-nails cops to audiences: Lt. Dan “Hondo” Harrelson (STEVE FORREST), Officer Jim Street (ROBERT URICH), Sgt. David “Deacon” Kay (ROD PERRY), Officer Dominic Luca (MARK SHERA), and Officer T.J. McCable (JAMES COLEMAN).

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

The 6-disc set is housed in a standard DVD case. No features were included.

VIDEO – 3.5/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

S.W.A.T. arrives onto DVD presented in the originally televised 1.33 full frame aspect ratio and the audio is the standard Dolby Digital Mono track. In both instances, and given there likely was not much, if any, restoration done, these look and sound pretty good, probably on par if it was airing on modern televisions today.

OVERALL – 3.75/5

Overall, S.W.A.T. aired before my time and I never watched when it was on syndication (presuming it was at some point) but it is a franchise that despite only lasting two seasons has endured with a Hollywood movie, a few direct-to-video spin-offs and now a remake series on CBS. The DVD release by Mill Creek is on the basic side with no features but in the $15 range it is worth picking up.
