The Rounders is a fun little Western romp starring the two veteran actors, Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda. The Blu-ray released through Warner’s Archive Collection is limited in the features department (only a trailer) but the video and audio transfers are both well done.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

What do you call a cowboy with his brains kicked out? A bronc rider. Ben Jones and Howdy Lewis, heaven help them, are bronc riders. Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda portray the pair who are cowboy enough to do just about any job, except for the one at hand. That job: Saddle a clever, ornery, blaze-faced roan named Old Fooler and make him as gentle as a milk-pen calf. Can’t be done – and that gets the cowpokes to thinking. Maybe they can make a dollar or two by wagering that no one at the rodeo can stay atop him either.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

The only feature is the Theatrical Trailer (2:43; HD).

VIDEO – 4.75/5
AUDIO – 4.0/5

The Rounders debuts in high-definition through Warner’s MOD Archive Collection. The film is presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p resolution transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec). This is a very impressive picture showcasing vivid colors while detail is rather sharp throughout. As a movie now going on 50+ years old, the studio did a nice job.

The movie comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono 2.0 track. Dialogue levels come through the center channel quite well while the soundtrack/score gives some minor depth. Not exactly noteworthy, this lossless track is, like the video, seemed to receive a fine upgrade over any Dolby Digital from DVD releases.

OVERALL – 3.75/5

Overall, The Rounders is a fun little Western romp starring the two veteran actors, Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda. The Blu-ray released through Warner’s Archive Collection is limited in the features department (only a trailer) but the video and audio transfers are both well done.
