The Garbage Pail Kids Movie is, putting it simply, a crap of a movie. Sure, the film might have its fans in a cultish kind of way and plenty of camp but not in the good kind of way. Beyond that, the costumes and prosthetics are creepier than anything else.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.5/5

This “Collector’s Edition” release comes with a matted slip cover. The interior cover is reversible with the original theatrical poster.

Also included are Interviews with Assistant Director Thomas Irvine (6:22;m HD), Actor Mackenzie Astin (27:16; HD) and The Garbage Pail Kids – Arturo Gil and Kevin Thompson (21:21; HD). Also included is the Theatrical Trailer (2:02; HD).

VIDEO – 3.25/5

Shout Factory, through their Scream Factory line, unleashes The Garbage Pail Kids Movie onto Blu-ray presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. When you consider what to have been a relatively cheap budget, and just the all around bad work on the Kids, I guess this doesn’t look too bad yet detail is only moderately acceptable, colors generally are decent but nothing vibrant and there were a few instances of dust marks. So this transfer is no doubt better than anything that had come before.

AUDIO – 3.5/5

The movie comes with an adequate DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track which provides for good dialogue levels while other elements, such as the score, isn’t quite as dynamic. There is some ambient noises, however, and as with the picture, this is probably a nice enough upgrade over its DVD counterparts.

OVERALL – 2.25/5

Overall, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie is, putting it simply, a crap of a movie. Sure, the film might have its fans in a cultish kind of way and plenty of camp but not in the good kind of way. Beyond that, the costumes and prosthetics are creepier than anything else. The “Collector’s Edition” Blu-ray released through Scream Factory offers so-so video and audio and although the features aren’t expansive, at least there is some new material.
