Some Kind of Hate actually isn’t a bad flick with decent enough acting from Ronen Rubinbstein, Grace Phipps and Sierra McCormick, but it is uneven with the story and doesn’t pack quite the punch filmmakers wanted. However, there is some entertainment value and might be worth a rental.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
Relentless bullying has turned Lincoln’s (RONEN RUBINSTEIN) life into a nightmare. But soon he learns the true meaning of terror when he is sent to a remote school for troubled teens and the harassments start all over again. Only this time, someone is watching – a teenage girl named Moira (SIERRA MCCORMICK) who was driven to suicide by vicious bullying years ago. When Lincoln accidentally summons Moira from the grave, he unleashes a vengeful and unstoppable force on a mission of blood-soaked revenge. Hell on Earth has a new meaning.
SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5
This release comes with semi-embossed slip cover. Features-wise, it’s a tad light but has two Audio Commentaries, one featuring Director/Co-Writer Adam Egypt Mortimer and Co-Writer Brian DeLeeow; and second with actors Ronen Rubinstein, Grace Phipps and Sierra McCormick and Director Mortimer. There are also a set of Deleted Scenes (4:02; HD) with optional commentary with Mortimer.
VIDEO – 4.0/5
RLJ Entertainment releases Some Kind of Hate shown with a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and presented in 1080p high-definition. The transfer isn’t bad providing for sharp detail and colors appear to be natural and well balanced. There weren’t any obvious signs of artifacts but I did notice darker shots were off perhaps due to the camera or in order to see what is going on, but blacks could’ve been deeper.
AUDIO – 3.75/5
The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is decent enough starting off rather weak at times with low dialogue levels and nary anything out of the LFE channel but picks up as the horror spikes and the front and rear channels come to life between ambient noises, blood-curdling screams from Moira’s revenge as well as the score. It’s nothing profound or amazing but effective enough.
OVERALL – 2.5/5
Overall, Some Kind of Hate actually isn’t a bad flick with decent enough acting from Ronen Rubinbstein, Grace Phipps and Sierra McCormick, but it is uneven with the story and doesn’t pack quite the punch filmmakers wanted. However, there is some entertainment value and might be worth a rental. The Blu-ray released by RLJ offers good video/audio and while there are two commentaries and some deleted scenes, some kind of making-of featurette would’ve been nice.
