Although not a terrible movie, or at least as terrible as I feared, The House was a misfire of a project for the normally, box office while anyway, Will Ferrell and even though I did manage to laugh a time or two, it is an entirely forgettable movie.

Zoolander No. 2 might’ve had good intentions behind the camera for Ben Stiller and its cast, but the jokes rarely landed leaving us with the stupidity of the original without any of comedy. I can’t say I had a displeasured experience while watching, merely indifference and counting down the time until it would finally end.

Daddy’s Home might have a few laughs but it’s just another forgettable Will Ferrell comedy with sloppy writing and jokes that mostly are lame than actually funny, not to mention a sugar-heavy ending that was just awful, though family friendly I guess.

Well, it’s that time of year. A time to be with family. A time to run up those dang credit card bills. Every year I tell myself I’ll limit my spending on “me” items but these studios just have to release something that challenges my resolve (i.e. Fox’s “X-Files” series set on Blu-ray). I’ve compiled a listing of some holiday gift ideas from the inexpensive to the slightly expensive, gifts the entire family can enjoy without breaking the wallet… or whatever they say on channels like QVC or HSN.

The LEGO Movie is easily one heck of a fun flick with a sharp script that appeals to both kids and adults, masterful voice casting (especially Will Arnett as Batman) and the animation is absolutely wonderful. This 3-disc set offers some decent amount of features while the audio and video (both 2D and 3D) are incredible and alone worth the price. Whether or not you were a Lego kid, this is a fun film for the entire family.

Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has a few amusing moments and biting satire on 24-hours news networks, but although the cast seems to work well with one another, I found the movie itself to drag on especially towards the end. As someone who wasn’t a huge fan of the original, I came into this with little expectations and it pretty well met them.

Megamind is one of the better non-Pixar computer animated releases and for DreamWorks scores another victory after the response for the highly entertaining How to Train Your Dragon. As for this movie, the voice casting was genius and perfectly fit each roll from the heroic Metro Man voice by Brad Pitt to the villainous ineffectiveness of Will Ferrell as the title character, it all works so well with a clever script and well done animation.

The Other Guys may not hit a homerun in the comedy department but as someone who hasn’t been the biggest Will Ferrell fan throughout his star-making career, I thought it was funny enough from beginning to end. The DVD itself doesn’t have much to offer in terms of features while the audio and video transfers are adequate when compared against other newer DVD releases.
