Ice Age: Collision Course is one of the worst animated movies, professionally done anyway, I’ve ever come across. The animation itself was fine but the jokes were terrible and rarely landed and the story is haphazard and lazily done.

I hated Movie 43. I didn’t find the jokes particularly funny – and mind you, I don’t mind crude/rude humor – nor was it very controversial. Instead this looked more like a college film project with a higher budget and one which was made for insiders rather than a larger audience. Interestingly enough, at the premiere, Seann William Scott apparently was the biggest name of the cast to show up which says a lot when the others, even in their small roles, didn’t even bother attending.

Although hardly a great sequel even when compared with the others, Ice Age: Continental Drift overcomes any problems with a thin plot with at least a modestly fun adventure with likeable characters and jokes which mostly hit the mark. No, it’s not remotely close to anything Pixar has put out or even DreamWorks Animation for that matter, but since it only clocks in at 88-minutes, it’s a breezy flick to watch on a slow afternoon which the entire family can enjoy.

American Reunion is a great finale to a funny and heartfelt franchise. For a certain generation this cast and characters have meant so much and to find them back together is a great accomplishment by the producers and filmmakers. The movie itself has some memorable moments and thankfully doesn’t restrain itself to the timeline of the direct-to-video sequels.

Road Trip is a fun movie that unfortunately doesn’t get mentioned with the likes of American Pie or even Van Wilder and indeed it’s not as good as either one yet still provides plenty of laughs and gross-out humor to satisfy fans. The cast shares some great comedic energy and having Amy Smart in the movie doesn’t exactly hurt things either.

American Wedding despite the issues I had with Stifler as he changed from obnoxious to plain annoying, still has some funny scenes and even though it doesn’t nearly stack up to its predecessors, retains some of the charm that made them so good and memorable. In regards to the Blu-ray, the video is OK, though nothing special while the audio is good and the features are superficial but decent.

American Pie 2 is another good entry in the series and in between the titillating and raunchy humor, the reason the film still resonates a decade later is because there’s a genuine heart at its core. With regards to the Blu-ray, while I can’t say the audio and video transfers are anything spectacular, they are a modest upgrade over the DVD version.

American Pie is still a fun movie that might not have any sense of reality given most of these characters only exist on celluloid, but even so, it’s a movie that even with its age still manages to make me laugh be it for the gross-out, raunchy jokes or sex humor. As far as the Blu-ray is concerned, I was disappointed with the lossless audio that’s not much better than a standard Dolby Digital track while the video, albeit nothing noteworthy, is a marginal improvement over the DVD version.

Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special is a fun animated short and fans of the Ice Age franchise will get a kick out of it. And even if you haven’t seen the other films, there’s still a fun time to be had. With regards to the Blu-ray, given the retail price is $15, that is a bit steep even with a discount. If you can grab this for $5 then it’d be worth it.
